Strasbourg's historic city centre, the so called the Grande Île, was the first entire city centre that has been classified by the UNESCO as a World Heritage site. The city is chiefly known for its sandstone Gothic Cathedral with its famous astronomical clock. During Festival Contretemps the impressive architecture of the town fade into the background. Because artists such as the Boogie-Funk king DâM-FunK, Portishead mastermind Andy Smith, New York's wild mashing Phenomenal Handclap Band, and the American multi-instrumentalist James Pants come by play some outstanding music. Stylistically the sound longs from Funk to Soul, from Rock to Disco, from Electropop to HipHop. But whatever each artist represents they all got one thing in common: to entertain you with music that buck common trends.
Due to the fact that the Festival longs for twelve days and takes place in different locations we advise to pass by their webpage to get some detailed orientation. We also recommend to stay more then one night to get impressed by the beauty of Strasbourg too.
