Emanating from Milan’s unsavory peripheral zones, Ale Formenti’s raw, honest and alternately titillating and unsettling photographs of drinking, bleeding, crack smoking, vomiting, tattooed miscreants and hoodlums (along with female fellow travelers clad only in lilac-colored panties and gas masks) capture a punk rock skateboarding funhouse existence with a distinctly Italian flavor. Formenti finds his inspiration in everything that happens around him, taking pictures of his kind of people and doing it in the way that does their self-destructive high jinks, bad habits and unbridled sense of fun justice. He doesn’t produce “cool” images like those “that would make even a leper look nice” and isn’t interested in distorting reality but representing the fundamental nature of his subjects. Ale has exhibited in Milano (Italy) and New York City (USA).

Jocko Weyland is the author of The Answer is Never – A Skateboarder’s History of the World (Grove Press, 2002) and has written for Thrasher, The New York Times, Cabinet and other publications. He is the creator of Elk magazine, books and gallery, an editor-at-large for Open City magazine, and his artwork has been exhibited at KS Art and Franklin Parrasch Gallery in New York, the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and the MU Foundation in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Since their first collaboration, the cult classic 8 millimeter backyard pool riding documentary ‘Fruit of the Vine’ in 1999, Ricky Charnoski and Buddy Nichols hey make films that are about skateboarding, but they have consistently gone beyond the tropes of trick-after-trick skate videos and frenetic editing that are the norm to illuminate deeper truths in the lives of skateboarders.
The films are always aesthetically unique showcases for great skateboarding in all its varieties, but they also include the perils and joys of the road, humor, irreverence and real people living life to its fullest. Maybe it’s because they work in the trenches shooting fashion shows or at Ground Zero in New York, where they are based. Or that their movies have been shown everywhere from hole-in-the-wall skate shops to the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio and the MU Art Foundation in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. This unusually broad worldview informs their lives, and it influences their films—which are made by real skaters who get out there and do it while documenting it faithfully, and occasionally turn it into art.

Born in 1978. Based in Paris and Barcelona. She learned photography at Louis Lumière School in Paris, and also worked as an assistant for studios and fashion photographers for several years. “I also do photography to try to know more about people and about photography. Photography is at the heart of my work. The representation it gives, physically linked to its subject and, for a long time, seen as a raw part of reality, makes the photography an underlying and critical, deep and light, experimental and codified tool to explore objectivity, thruth and fiction.”
In collaboration with Bertrand Trichet, she did the projects “DeuX2” and “Convince Me” (with Scott Bourne and Jérémie Cortial) .

Via Grafik is both a graphic design studio and an art collective based in Wiesbaden, Germany. Consists of: Leo Volland (boe/bstrkt), André Nossek (mnwrks/slave), Robert Schwartz (n6), Tim Bollinger (g13), Till Heim (sign) and Lars Herzig.Working in the fields of graphic design, motion design, art direction and illustration, they develop design and graffiti solutions at a unique visual level.
