Usually you hear about Julian Dykmans, but Julians older brother, Ian Dykmans, is also a well known skateboarder, just in another range of skateboarding…
Ian is a skateboarder/ activist/ photographer/ skatepark-builder/ designer. In 2007 him and his friends from the Brusk Association have built a concrete skatepark in Namur/ Belgium. Ian documented the full elaboration of the project, from the very beginning until the first sessions. The result is “this is our full circle” a handmade architecture-plan-fanzine putting together those months of work in Namur (Belgium). Check out the folding process in the following animation:
“this is our full circle – plan of a skatepark which is not a plan anymore. by Ian Dykmans” plan-zine of a building site made with the same philosofy as the skatepark of Namur by the BRUSK collective: taking pictures developing the negs, enlarging the prints, analogic layout on the architect map with typing machine and tape, folded by hand the pictures within say it better, all the texts have translations.
“THE SKATEPARK OF NAMUR, located on the beach of Amée in 5100 Jambes (close to Namur), Belgium was built by the BRUSK collective from the month of may to the month of august 2007 with the help from the local skaters, but also with the help of skaters from Mechelen (Belgium) and Germany. Brusk learned building skateparks by organizing concrete workshops with the Skaters from Liege, Huy, Brussels and Joidogne (+/- legally) But also by fraternizing with the skaters from Team Pain during the works of Kortrijk and Antwerp. Then we went together to build the pool of Hagen with Matt of Minus Ramps. The skaters from Hagen were the Germans who came to help us out in Namur. The skatepark of Namur is the first built by the collective, but above all, it’s the first in Belgium totally skater built. (…) Other projects have followed or are now in construction, they can be seen on the website of BRUSK”
