The Book and DVD Namaskar India is a project supported by Carhartt/ Slamjam and will be available in stores soon.
“We were sitting in front of a glass of warm green mint tea when this project first took form. We were in North Africa producing a video and enjoying a North Atlantic 6ft swell hitting the coastline. We started feeling it was time to organise something more involved than a traditional, staid surf trip.
Some of us had already travelled to Kerala, but for the rest of the crew the Indian subcontinent was still a dream. It was the land of all those clichés and stereotypes, the place of unbridled joy and spices, where yoga and meditation have influenced many travellers’ souls. From a surfing perspective perhaps it could also be the place where sets of unknown monsoon generated waves could roll empties for kilometres…
All the places we visited and all of the people who touched us on our journey to the surf and the concrete skateable structures of India became part of our travelling experience…
Besides all the tricks landed and all the moves captured, the cheeky people staring and cheering, the beggars lying on the sidewalks and the few local surfers who shared a line-up with us provided the essence and the reason for our Indian trip.
