“I hate questions like ‘oh do you ride a camel?’” said Chndy in a recent interview with i-D magazine. Along with his partner, Chebmoha, the photography duo are highlighting an unseen side the Arabian Gulf – one that goes beyond the stereotype of war, wealth and not much. Both creative nomads, they split their time between styling, design and photography, exposing the idiosyncrasies and subtle beauty of their world to a wider audience.
The duo recently lensed an editorial for Carhartt WIP, travelling to Kuwait to capture the dusty landscapes, pastel hues and vibrant characters of the region. Shot to coincide with the launch of our Jeddah Store, the grainy, analogue photography accentuates the authenticity of their shots, capturing a Carhartt WIP-accented Arabian Peninsula – no models, no stylists, just locals wearing their chosen pieces from this season’s collection.
While the duo – born in Iraq and Oman respectively – are no strangers to the sun-bleached charm of Kuwait and surrounding states, they know that for many their work is a journey into the unknown. For them, clothes are the medium for a wider cultural dialogue. The setting might not be familiar, but that iconic orange ‘C’ is.
