Kamaal Williams is Henry Wu – a house, hip hop and electronic producer from the UK, who so far has released smashing EPs on labels like Rhythm Section International, Tartlet or Eglo Records. Under his given name Kamaal Williams, he was also one half of the influential duo Yussef Kamaal along with Yussef Dayes. Together they released one critically acclaimed full length broken beat-meets soul-jazz album on Gilles Peterson’s label Brownswood Recordings titled Black Focus. In May 2017, the duo announced that Kamaal Williams and Yussef Dayes would no longer be performing together under the name Yussef Kamaal. Instead, the music of Black Focus is now performed by two alternative line-ups, one led by Williams (Henry Wu presents Black Focus Live), and one led by Dayes (Yussef Dayes presents Black Focus). This month Carhartt WIP presents three exclusive German dates by Kamaal Williams, who will play together with his three-piece band. As well as performing fresh Black Focus interpretations, the band will also play a few Henry Wu tunes to enrich their touching, soulful live program with some irresistible dance grooves.
