Carhartt WIP proudly presents a two-night showcase at Total Refreshment Centre presenting a selection of musicians who are featured on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings release We Out Here – a new album featuring original and newly recorded music by some of the most exciting bands from London’s contemporary Jazz scene. Many of the driving forces behind the English capital’s fresh Jazz wave are gathered on this album, which revels in breaking genre borders, and rethinking Jazz conceptually and sonically – all whilst maintaining a raw and focused energy as the core-component. It was recorded over three days in London August 2017.
The impressive line up features keyboard player Joe Armon-Jones, who released his brilliant first solo EP via Peckham’s YAM Recordings at the end of last year after playing for groups like Ata Kak, Ezra Collective and many others. Also on the bill: talented saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia who will play on both nights for the Spiritual Jazz project Maisha and Theon Cross’ high energy Jazz-funk trio. Also, the energetic Afrobeat collective Kokoroko and the Fusion-Jazz group Triforce will be performing.
All six concerts will take place at Total Refreshment Centre in North-East London and each night will be accompanied by a screening of a documentary about the making of the new album, the bands, venues and organisations which have built the scene. Both nights will give a great insight into London’s up-and-coming scene of Jazz bands as well as what to expect from the We Out Here release which is dropping on the 9th of February on Brownswood Recordings.
