Italy’s Nextones festival is back, bringing exceptional music and audiovisual arts to the Val D'Ossola in the northern Italian region of Piedmont. All live shows will go down at Tones Teatro Natura – a transformed former quarry.
Nextones 2021 takes place over almost one week, featuring concerts, lectures, sound walks, workshops and site-specific musical performances by some of the most interesting artists and researchers in the contemporary scene. The lineup includes Italian electronic composer Caterina Barbieri, who will introduce her latest audiovisual work Light-Years, performing together with Norwegian saxophonist Bendik Giske, electronic producer Nkisi, and visual artist Marcel Weber.
A further confluence of tech and nature will be offered by German producer Pantha Du Prince, introducing his latest album Conference Of Trees, a record that functions as a critical response to climate change and which features a variety of instruments, including cello, tonewoods, bells, self-made instruments and electronics. Another highlight will be the fast-paced piano notes of Ukrainian/Canadian composer and pianist of Lubomyr Melnyk, who premieres the audiovisual piece The End Of The World together with Turin-based art and music collective SPIME.IM, and Canadian cellist Julia Kent, who will meld natural sound elements with electronic and acoustic arrangements.
Check the full program here and make sure to bring your walking gear, as the natural surroundings and Nextones take you higher.
