Carhartt WIP proudly presents Rewire 2021 - online edition, a fully online program from 6th to 9th of May featuring commissioned musical works, remote collaborations, and exclusive premieres.
Over four days Rewire will present a multitude of projects and formats that demonstrate the varied ways artists have been creating and performing works under physical restrictions. The festival brings together artists and audience to create and share unique audiovisual and interactive experiences, alongside a program of talks, workshops and meditations that aim to address this year’s festival theme of “(Re)setting”.
“(Re)setting” explores the process of change and adaptation in relation to sound, listening practices and environmental structures. In an increasingly fraught global context, people constantly must reorientate themselves towards new situations and altering perspectives. Rewire 2021 offers a moment for reflection in the current context of the pandemic and how it has affected all aspects of life.
The line-up features more than 70 artists, performing all sorts of musical styles and visual ideas live and in pre-recorded formats. On the bill is Swiss electronic producer Aïsha Devi & 118 presenting the world premiere of the audio visual “SLF: The Sacred Show”. Additionally, Belgian bass clarinetist and composer Ben Bertrand, Melbourne based Experimental duo CS + Kreme, London’s in-demand jazz-adjacent ensemble Tara Clerkin Trio, legendary Brazilian singer Elza Soares, and American avant-garde trumpeter Jaimie Branch.
The line-up is rounded out by Amsterdam-based guitarist Jonny Nash and celebrated Dutch keyboard player Ronald Langestraat, as well as Russian producer and singer Kate NV, and Japanese music acts like acid-folk sensation Satomimagae or legendary ensemble OOIOO, presenting their latest works.
Rewire is also teaming up with virtual club platform Club Qu, presenting DJ sets by artists from Brazil, China, United Kingdom, Jordan, and Mexico including Badsista, Hyph11E, Tzusing, Bashar Suleiman, and Siete Catorce.
